Cultivation of microalgae on liquid anaerobic digestate for depollution, biofuels and cosmetics: a review

Abstract Solid wastes from domestic, industrial and agricultural sectors cause acute economic environmental problems. These issues can be partly solved by anaerobic digestion of wastes, yet this process is incomplete generates abundant byproducts as digestate. Therefore, cultivating mixotrophic algae on digestate appears a promising solution for nutrient recovery, pollutant removal biofuel production. Here we review algal cultivation waste with focus types characterization, recycling in agriculture, contaminants, production biofuels such biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel dihydrogen. We also discuss applications cosmetics economical aspects. Mixotrophic completely removes ammonium, phosphorus, 17β-estradiol diluted digestate, 62% zinc, 84% manganese, 74% cadmium 99% copper.
